A soft rafting itinerary of great historical and archaeological interest, dedicated to the discovery of mills and fulling mills, which, thanks to the Arte della Lana (Wool corporation) made Florence famous from the thirteenth century onwards for its industrial activities. Our guide will take you to incredible places along the Arno river, which are only accessible by water, where for centuries the first wool cloth was made, flour was ground, and the foderi – log rafts used for constructing the Opera del Duomo and Pisa’s naval fleet – were transported. Just like the foderi, you will traverse the weirs made for these millenary mills. A unique experience combining history, culture and nature along the Arno river, right at the gates of Florence. The embarkation point can also be reached by public transport: the ATAF bus number 14 bus to Girone terminus. Upon request, it is possible to do the tour with an archaeologist on board.
